Biography

Sergeant Major Jack Tilley served as the 12th Sergeant Major of the Army from June 2000 until his retirement of more than 36 years of active service in June 2004, and is now part of the ‘NewDay USA 5’ Character Driven Leadership Development Team. He was the Army Chief of Staff's personal advisor on all enlisted-related matters, particularly in areas affecting soldier training and quality of life that impacted over 1,000,000 active duty, reserve personnel and their families.  His illustrious career included staff and operational assignments throughout the United States and overseas along with a joint military service assignment to the U.S. Central Command; combat tour in Vietnam and Bosnia; with multiple battlefield visits in Afghanistan and Iraq.  After retirement from the U.S. Army in 2004, he has held employment in a variety of senior executive-level positions, and currently serves as a board member on several public service and nonprofit organizations, including co-chairman of the American Freedom Foundation which supports the military community and their families.  He is also author of his book titled, “A Soldier’s Life.”
